* • Ida's [ Motebook ' u** It seems as though fall should be a slow-down season but around here there is always something to do. Now that I’ve potted some sixty flowers they must be watered regularly. The curtains need to be laundered, tiny spiders chased out of tiny crevices and windows must be washed. There is more spearmint tea to be dried and more parsley to freeze. And should I finish all these jobs, there is an empty cookie jar to fill and a dessert to be prepared for the evening meal. By the end of the day I’m happy to sit down with the newspaper before bedtime. Recently we had a piece of land, which we farm sur veyed, and it proved to be quite a job.-No longer could anyone find the stones which marked the comers over fifty years ago. When the pins were finally placed we discovered that a neighbor had planted two or three rows of corn on our land. We sat around the supper table and joked about his sharing his crop. We thought it would be a good idea if we could have the top half of each stalk. But maybe that wouldn’t be fair. You can’t go back! Once you have flown cross-county in an airplane your ideas change upon seeing a large silvery plane with a white jet stream following it. No longer is it just a thing of beauty but it becomes, in your mind, a setting for a hundred people who are reading, eating, listening to the intercom or using the bathroom. For everything we gain-we lost something. il people working under her. She explained that Amway has car care, personal and cleaning products. She said she enjoys the work because she sets her own pace, and it “gives me a chance to visit with friends. I like to see people.” I**l .-jge. s i She calls the company “family oriented** and said that’s why she feels she can work with them successfully. She added that they are now selling a line of natural vitamins and said, “I really believe that you are what you eat and you are what you live.*’ Although there’s not a lot of spare time, Mrs. Hite says, “I love to sew - I would sooner sew than eat! ” One of the things she enjoys doing when traveling is to buy fabrics instead of other souvenirs, then die has clothing remembrances of each of the places she has visited. She said, “I like to keep my clothes basic and simple. I have always sewn - on the farm there are always rips and tears.” She used to be a 4-H leader, teaching sewing naturally. All of the Hitz children were also 4-H members. Mrs. Hitz has worked closely with her husband in the remodeling and changing of their stone farm home which dates from 1865. They have added an office and family room, one feature of which is a lovely stone fireplace made from stones gathered on the farm. She said they often host family gatherings since their home is so spacious. Autumn is sure to be busy for Mrs. Hitz. There are numerous Farm Women conventions, and she is chairman of the fashion part of the state convention which is held annually during Farm Show week. This year they will feature long dresses in their fashion show. She is also looking forward to traveling to Milwaukee Wisconsin for the first national get-together of Farm Women. She had almost made plans to fly to Milwaukee with a group from a neighboring county when her husbapd gave her the “first shock of our married life,” according to Mrs. Hitz. He said die could go but die would be going against his wishes. Since he likes to travel too, he was disappointed at the prospect at being left behind. They have since worked out an arrangement whereby they expect to be driving together to the convention. Getting the most out of life is a desirable goal, and each must find his own way to fulfillment. Mrs. Hitz makes it evident through her work and her optimistic outlook that she truly means it when she says, “I enjoy life.” $ SAVE ON FOOD $ [CORKS CANNED GOODS!
