George Lewis accepted the award for Farmers First Bank, Lititz, and R. E. Miller accepted for Commonwealth National Bank of Quarryvllle was unable to have a representative to accept its award. Miss Hinkel also presented awards to Kim Martin, Garden Spot 4-H and Ronald Walton, Penn Willow 4-H, as outstanding teen leaders. Miss Martin is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Martin, 34 Diller Ave., New Holland. Walton is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Walton Jr., Conestoga Rl. “I Dare You” Awards went to Joseph Lefever and Christine Erb, co-presidents of the 4-H Lancaster County Council. Lefever served as master of ceremonies at the banquet, and Miss Erb gave the invocation. Guest speaker for the event was Dr. Gary W. Reighard, vice president of student affairs at Miller- Consumers’ Corner Bike Safety U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has ordered manda tory safety regulations for all bicycles sold in interstate com merce on or after January 1, 1975. Reports indicate that bikes are the Number 1 product haz ard presently—amounting to more than a million injuries a year. Injury experts note that in 1973, 419,000 persons sought hos pital emergency room treatment for injuries associated with bi cycles. The bike craze for rec reational, health and fuel-saving reasons shows no sign of let ting up. The Commission notes that about 17% of bike injunes are directly traceable to mechanical and structural defects. 63% are related to loss of control, while 10% are attributable to body en tanglements in bike components New bicycle regulations will require that all bicycle frames, steering systems, wheels and brakes will have to meet require ments and pass tests for safe construction, effectiveness, strength, and performance. Recognized for service were: Five years: Mrs. Ronald Bensinger, Fred Crider, Mrs. D. A. Harrold, Mrs. Keith Hasselhorst, Mrs. Wayne Huber, Mrs. Earl Martin, Mrs. Luther Moore, Mrs. Ronald Rohrer, Barney Wilson, Mrs. Walter Wun derly and John R. Zim merman. Ten years: Mrs. Ernest Hartranft, Mrs. David Hoover, Mrs. Homer Martin, Mrs. Harold Ruhl and John Thomas. Fifteen years: Kenneth Eshleman, Mrs. Anna Geyer and Mrs. Woodrow Good.
