year. Almost 70,000 youth in
some 1,400 counties
throughout the U.S. take
part.
Enrollment in the program
increased about 14 percent
last year, and 4-H officials

Kids like animals and they get the opportunity to
have fun with them while learning about their care
and feeding through two 4-H programs. In the
national 4-H dog care and training program, spon
sored by Purina Dog Foods Groups, Ralston Purina
Company, youths learn all about caring for their
canine friends. Meanwhile, 4-H’ers who want to learn
more about animal care and health can do so through
the national 4-H veterinary science program, spon
sored by The Upjohn Company.

In 4-H
According to the survey,
373 veterinarians are
currently involved in a 4-H
program, with 293 of them
participating directly in the
4-H Veterinary Science
Program. Of the 373
veterinarians, 234 serve as 4-
H leaders and 179 are
parents of 4-H members.
Significantly, 72 other
veterinarians indicated on
their questionnaires that
they are interested in
becoming involved in the
National 4-H Veterinary
