combined with an ongoing
screening and selection
program have brought about
some exciting new
developments in multiple
eared com.”
Dekalb sees two possible
avenues with prolific-type
corns that could help far
mers produce more corn
from every acre. The first is
the obvious - prolific hybrids
that have the ability to
produce two or more good
ears from a single stalk at
today’s typical population
levels. In other words,
produce two ears where only
one was produced before. In
this way, it is hoped, the per
acre yield could be in
creased.
But there is another
avenue with prolific corns
that could be equally
rewarding according to the
company. Research shows
some prolific-type hybrids
have the ability to withstand
very high plant populations
