Berks Co. FFA In Events at Fair It has been another successful year for the Berks County FFA at the Kutztown Fair. The morning of Friday August 23 was reserved for a county dairy and livestock judging. In the dairy judging contest, a class of Holstein milking cows was judged, along with a class of heifers and another milking cow class. Jeff Miller of RD3 Kutztown, representing the Kutztown Chapter finished first in this contest, with a perfect score in all three classes. Nick Sattazahn of RDI Womelsdorf, Tulpehocken Chapter, finished a close second with perfect scores on two classes. Robert Gerhart, RDI Wemersville, Conrad Weiser Chapter; finished third; James Adam, RD2 Hamburg, Hamburg Chapter, fourth; Todd Schroeder, RD2 Hamburg, Hamburg Chapter, fifth; Alfred Adam, RDI Shoemakersville, Hamburg Chapter, sixth; George Charles, RDI Womelsdorf, Tulpehocken Chapter, seventh; Craig Grumbine, RDI Richland, Tulpehocken Chapter, eighth; Roger Imes, RD3 Fleetwood, Oley Valley Chapter, ninth; and Herman Manbeck, RDI Womelsdorf, Conrad Weiser Chapter, tenth. In the livestock judging contest participants placed a class of market steers, a class of market swine, and a class of breeding gilts. First place in livestock judging was captured by Luke Krill, RDI Bemville, Tulpehocken Chapter. Second place went to Marlin Dietrich, RDI Kempton, Kutztown Chapter; third place - Robert ra sylvania HARVESTORE, In Stoltzfus, RD2 Elverson, Twin Valley Chapter; fourth place - Harold Zellers, RDI Wemersville, Conrad Weiser Chapter; fifth place - Darrel Stoltzfus, RD2 Elverson, Twin Valley Chapter; sixth place - Cathy Muth, RDI Alburtis, Brandywine Chapter; seventh place - Arthur Noss, Wemersville, Conrad Weiser Chapter; eighth place - Edward Wertz, RDI Shoemakersville, Hamburg Chapter; ninth place - Robert Donkel, RDI Bethel, Tulpehocken Chapter; tenth - David Staaby, RDI Womelsdorf, Conrad Weiser Chapter. On Friday afternoon the county tractor driving contest was held, with the traditional three parts to the contest - four - wheeled" wagon, manure spreader, and obstacle course. In this contest, each county chapter is limited to one participant. Robert Stoltzfus of Twin Valley finished first with James Adam of Hamburg and Jeff Miller of Kutztown a close second and third. Robert and Jim will now represent Berks County in the area contest against drivers from Lebanon and Schuylkill county. Other participants were; Myles Angstadt of Brandywine, George Carles of Tulpehocken, Michael Gauby of Oley, and David Staaby of Conrad Weiser. Northern Lebanon FFA captured first place in the window exhibit class with its exhibit “PROPERTY DESTROYED BY FIRE”. Kutztown FFA finished second with - “SOS - SAVE OUR STREAMS”. Conrad Weiser’s ‘‘THE Penn Jersey Harvestore 10th Anniversary ENERGIZED FARMER’ was third; “SOYBEANS FOOD, FEED, FUTURE’ from Twin Valley wa fourth; and Tri-Valley’s “II THERE A ROTARI ENGINE IN YOUI FUTURE” was fifth.
