McHale To Attend 25th Solanco Fair
Pennsylvania Secretary of
Agriculture James McHale
will participate in opening
ceremonies of the 25th An
nual Solanco Fair at 7:30
p.m. Sept. 18.
the annual baby parade
will also be held that evening
with registration at the fair
grounds from 6 to 6:30 p.m.
George Mann,
Tobacco Firm
Owner,
Dies
George S. Mann,
prominent Lancaster
businessman and banker,
died Friday at 4:30 p.m. in
Lancaster General Hospital
after an illness of several
hours.
Mann, trustee emeritus
and former president of the
board of the General
Hospital, was 84.
The husband of Anna Hess
Mann, he lived at 1111
Wheatland Ave.
In 1964, Mann retired after
many years as owner and
manager of A. K. Mann and
Son Tobacco Co.
Bom in Manor Township,
he was a son of the late
Abraham K. Mann and
Elizabeth Groff Mann. He
graduated from Franklin
and Marshall Academy and
attended Franklin and
Marshall College.
He was a director for 38
years and former president
of the Lancaster County
National Bank. Upon his
retirement as director in
1961, he was honored at a
testimonial dinner at the
Hamilton Club.
One of his sons, William H.
Mann, a Lancaster attorney,
succeeded him as a director
of the bank and became the
fourth generation of the
Mann family connected with
the bank’s board.
Mann also served as a
trustee of Millersville State
College and headed the local
draft board during World
War H.
He was a member of the
Hamilton Club, Rotary Club
and the Pirates.
In addition to his widow, at
home, Mann is survived by
these children: a son, A.
Kenneth Mann, Lancaster; a
daughter, Anna Georgia,
wife of Charles D. Sparks,
Vero Beach, Fla.; a son,
William H. Mann, Lan
caster, and another son, Dr.
Richard H. Mann, Lancast
er, and another son. Dr.
Richard H. Mann, Lancaster

Thirteen grandchildren
and 10 great-grandchildren
also survive.
