    PennAg Makes Platform
Speaking before the
Republican Platform
Committee in Camp Hill,
Harrisburg recently Phillip
M. Spalding, York, Penn.,
Ist Vice President of PennAg
Industries Association,
suggested that the party
adopt a total systems ap
proach to agriculture and
realize agriculture’s needs
for rail transportation.
Spalding stated that both
parties (PennAg recently
made the same suggestion
before the Democratic
Platform Committee) should
recognize officially that,
“getting food on the table or
the fiber in the paper in
volves many organizations,
many people, all vitally
important segments of
agriculture. It involves not
only planting, cultivating
and harvesting, but drying,
cleaning, weighing, blen
ding, transporting, in
specting, marketing, ad
vertising, processing and
storing. It involves the talent
Dee-licious!
Purina Golden Bulky
Cows and growing heifers love the sweet flavor
and aroma of Purina Golden Bulky.
It’s sweet because it’s high in molasses. It’s light
and bulky —lOO pounds fills six bushel baskets.
It’s a high protein ration fortified with Vitamins
A and D.
Golden Bulky is versatile, too. It can be used to
balance the grain in your milking ration, dry cow
ration or heifer ration. You can use Golden Bulky
to supplement dry late summer and fall pastures
or to preserve silage. And it can be top-fed or
mixed with your own grain.
Next time you stop
by, let us show you
how many ways you
can feed versatile
and nutritious Purina
Golden Bulky.

The President of York
‘Flour Mills, Inc. also stated
that, "What is needed is a
sense of unity of purpose, a
dedication which in
agriculture will only come
with this concept we envision
of involving actively the
whole agricultural com
munity and telling the public
the good news, the progress
being made for their benefit.
The creation of dissension as
a stated policy will not
provide what is most needed
in this country today and
also in this Commonwealth.”
Spalding then switched to
a problem his Association is
very concerned about
transportation. “We are
convinced,” Spalding stated,
“that few agricultural
leaders are aware of the
tremendous need for an

without it."
“Agriculture has special
transportation needs and we
feel much more should be
done within the Department
of Agriculture on these needs
on a close liaison basis with
Penn Dot and other agencies.
We are talking about the
movement of bulk com
modities over branch rail
lines and also secondary
highways because in the
main that’s where the
agriculture is. This requires
the special talents of a
transportation expert with
an agricultural back
ground.” PcnnAg has
worked with representatives
of the Governor’s office of
Planning and Development
as well as Penn Dot.
Meat Pies
Meat pies are pies, of course,
but they’re also a stew In fact,
a good way to vary the second
day serving of stew is to place
it in a pic or casserole, adding
a different vegetable when neces
sary, then topping with pastry,
biscuits, mashed potatoes, or
cereal crumbs
Some people say that buttercups mixed with salt and hung
from the fingers will cure toothaches!
