One of the highlights of the evening was a speech given by Joseph Lefever on op portunity. Joe delivered the speech that he had given at county demonstration Day and explained what the 4-H Public Speaking Contest meant to him. Seven 4-Hers received special recognition for placing top in the County in the 4-H National Awards. Nine individual com petitors and one group of County 4-Hers took to the stage during the talent competition last evening. Eileen Haverstick, 16, captured first prize and $25 with her rendition of Ben jamin Godard’s “Second Mazurka in B flat.” Eileen is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Haverstick, 917 Kreps Road, Millersville and is a member of the Penn Willow 4-H Club. Second place honors went HERSHEY EQUIPMENT Co., Inc. to Tracy Foltz for h«r solo “I’d Like to Teach the World To Sing”; third place honors went to Frances Tice for her solo and a tie for fourth place saw honors going to Lewis Mengle for his accordian solo and Betsy Best for her piano solo. Debra Gregory, the 4-H Summer Assistant, closed the program by speaking on what 4-H has to offer to youth and by reminding the young people that getting involved in worthwhile projects can be rewarding.
