English Students Attend Cowtown Rodeo
Eleven girls from the
Gator Park School,
Beckenham, England; at
tended the Cowtown Rodeo
Saturday night.
The Rodeo is strictly a
sport of American origin,
and even today there is
nothing like it in England.
Therglrls, who are staying
with local families, are
members of the Foreign
Study League. They were
especially impressed with
the Bull Riding event. They
had never seen a bull in
action before and were
thrilled at the agility, skill,
and ability of the Cowboy to
stay a-top the 2,000 pound
beast!

A crowd of nearly 200
people gathered at the
Lebanon County Fairground
on Friday, August 2 for the
Pa. Yorkshire Co-op
Association’s hog sale.
Clair Flinchbaugh, Felton,
showed the champion bred
gilt which was purchased by
Reno Thomas of Beavertown
for $375.
Reserve Champion honors
went to Thomas Arnold of
Lebanon whose animal was
purchased by Daniel Miller
for $l7O.
Twenty bred gilts
averaged 185.50.
In the Open Gilt division,
Reno Thomas showed the
grand champion which was
purchased by Real Farms
for $6OO.
Thomas Arnold showed the
reserve champion which
Clyde Hepner of
Shoemakersville bought for
$135.
The open gilts averaged
$177.78

for $137.20 and a mark of 64.
Grant Harris of Cowtown
has now won the Saddle
Bronc competition three
weeks in a row. This week
his mark was 60 on a bronc
named Ace High and pay
Littermate pairs of open
gilts averaged $305.71.
Champion honors in the
division went to Reno
Thomas of Beavertown. The
animal was purchased by
Leon Powell of Shawboro,
Md. for $7OO.
Reserve honors went to
Thomas Arnold of Lebanon
whose gilt was sold to
Elwood Houser for $3lO.
Grand Champion honors in
the Boar class again went to
an animal of Reno Thomas’
and was purchased by Willis
Bass of Edington, North
Carolina for $625.
Reserve honors were
captured by Thomas Arnold
of Lebanon.
His boar was purchased by
Big Willow Farms in
Osterburg, Pa. for $2OO.
Boars purchased average
$210.50.

Stevenson of Neschanic

Wrestling and Barrel Race
events respectively. Steve
threw the fastest steer of the
season at 6.4 seconds for
$197.96. The former time was
held by Tom Halikman of
Monroeville, N. J. at 6.5
seconds. Barbara is top
Point Awards winner in the
girls event at Cowtown
Rodeo, having won $1,004.35.
She added another $143.08
Saturday by making her run
in 17.86 seconds.
The English girls will
without a doubt have
something unique and
educational to tell their
friends, when they return to
school in Beckenham.
