With the final results Just
published, the annual
•Pennsylvania FFA Ac
tivities Week at Penn State
University again saw
Pequea Valley fare very
well.
In the Dairy Judging
Contest, in which there were
over 260 contestants and
over 80 teams, Pequea
Valley placed 14th among
teams with Donald Miller
placing S2nd and Nelson

Representatives Needed.
Martin finishing 58th. In the
Safe Tractor Operation
Contest, John Beyer finished
12th out of 26 contestants. In
Land Judging, there were
over 140 contsts, with Carl
Caskey placing 60th and
Bryan Heidbreder finished
63rd. Finally in the Livestock
Judging Contest, Thomas
DenUnger placed Bth and
Fred Leaman finished 86th.
Tom's exemplary showing
entitles him to participate at
the American Livestock
Exposition at Richmond,
Virginia, September 20 to 23,
Chapter Advisor, Gerald H.
Phillips will serve as coach
for the Pennsylvania
Livestock Judging Team at
this contest and will ac
company the team to Rich
mond.
In other summer activity
news, the first annual
Pequea Valley FFA Slave
Auction was held on
Saturday July 13th. Although
excellent weather kept many
bidders at home busy with
Buyers Convene
For Holstein Sale
Friday evening, July 19,
marked the 12th An
niversary Sale at the Black
and White Holstein Farm,
2220 Dairy Lane, Lancaster.
The first ten cows
cataloged sold for an
average of $7850. Black and
White Holsteins offered sold
at an average of $2lll with a
herd dispersal average of
$9lB. Prices ranged from
$BOO-$28,000.
Doreigh Farms Magic
Rosie, a three and one half
year old who was classified
very good, having a 3.2
percent test and producing
18,328 pounds of milk in 320
days, was sold to Providence
Haven Farm RD4, Carlisle
for $28,000. Buyers were
Jake Emmick, Ron Heffner,
Don Reifsinger and Charles
Myers.
The cow had been bought
by the Myers’ at the National
Holstein Sale from Samuel
F. and Marian Long of RDI,
Christiana.

very keen for those who
turned out. Auctioneer Lynn
Martin tapped the block at
|3.50 per hour for the highest
bid of the day. Receipts from
this activity are divided
between the members and
the Chapter treasury.
Finally the annual sum
mer picnic and swimming
party will be held on Friday,
August 2nd at Kenneth
Hershey’s. All members and
incoming Freshmen are
invited to attend.
The sale, which drew
buyers from all over the
country and Canada brought
the following highlights:
Ben-Phyl Hope Et was sold
to Harvestore Haven, Silver
Lake, Indiana, for $12,000.
Red Rose Astro Lass
brought $4lOO being sold to
Obie Snyder of Bedford
County.
Two “Hagen” sisters sold
to Harvestore Haven in
Indiana brought $3250 each.
Kenneth Young, Lancaster
County, was the area’s
largest buyer purchasing
seven head of Holsteins.
Largest out of state buyer
was the Harvestore Haven
Farm in Indiana.
The Myers’ would like to
thank all their friends and
buyers who helped to make
their sale a success.
