Local Members Representatives of American Breeders Service were recently honored at the annual ABS Representative Awards Banquet held June 25 at the Colonial Motor Lodge, Ephrata, Pa. Named as outstanding ABS Rep. for 1973 was Maurice Stump, West Grove, Pa. Stump was credited with increasing sales in his area by over 3400 amplues as compared to 1972. Other local men cited for significant increases were: Paul Herr, Holt wood; Paul Martin, Richland; Marvin Joines, Stewartstown; William Shainline, Sch wenksville; Merton Stroble, Elverson; and Ernest Wagner, Annville. Donald Taylor was named out standing first year Representative. Richard Smith, Manager of ABS Genetic Mating Service, told the group of the success and rapid growth of the sire recommendation program at ABS. Willier also reported that through June of this year significant growth was noted in most of the ABS District which includes Southeastern Pa., New Jersey, Delaware, and East Shore Maryland. Schmidt, division manager. Dr. Schmidt said, “Through techniques of super ovulation and surgical transfer of fertilized em bryos, annual calf crops can be increased. The infant industry of commercial ova transfer companies is averaging nearly two calves per surgery. We at Car nation-Genetics feel this record is not economical... our goal is at least four pregnancies, and perhaps 6 or 8 pregnancies per surgery. “The research facilities and staff of specialists at Carnation-Genetics are working for the economical application of simper ovulation, sex separation, ova transfer and a host of other projects.” The ova transfer project is Gibson Named Congress Advisor A Lancaster youth, Henry Gibson, 352 S. Ann St., is among three 4-H members from Southeastern Penn sylvania named advisors to the 1975 4-H Congress to be held next June.
