—Lancaster Farmi 14 Lancaster County 4-H NEWS Klassy Klippers The fifth work meeting of the Landisville 4-H Sewing Club was held on July 12 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Cen terville Junior High School. Sarah Roth presided over the first part of the meeting. The 4-H Club Pledge was led by Claudia Bard. After roll call and the reading of the minutes the following demonstrations were given: “Stitchery” by Lesli Grove, “Ceramics” by Kathy Getz, “Jean Patches” by Ruthann Irwin, and “Dried Flower Pictures” by Nancy Weaver. Our president, June Grube, presided over the remainder of the meeting. She appointed the following members to committees for round-up to be held on July 25. Mary Roth, Ruthann Irwin, Melinda Grube and Cathy Brubaker make up the Refreshment Committee. Suzi Ayars and Diane Krum were appointed to the En tertainment Committee. The two girls elected to represent the club in the County 4-H Queen Contest were Jennifer Shiner as Junior Queen and June Grube as Senior Queen. Each member was given a list of cooking terms and asked to find the meanings for the next meeting. The correct way to set a table was demonstrated bv the leaders. The project Silver Spurs 4-H Club The Sliver Spurs 4-H Club held it’s monthly meeting July 9th at the home of Wylie and Sue Baker. President, Randy Click, led the club pledge followed by roll call and club reports. Claudia Bard announced that any member desiring to attend the Tennessee Square Dancers Program to be held at the Farm and Home Center on August 3 could obtain tickets from her. Members worked on their projects following the business meeting. A short business meeting and game time were held. The project for this meeting was making apple crisp and a Kool-Aid punch. Joan Garber News Reporter Robert Charles, a farrier, spoke on correcting hoof diseases after Dr. Edelson spoke on horse hoof disease. Under new business a swim party was planned for August 18th at the Lan disville Pool. Cherri Gochnauer and Connie Myers were selected for the queen contest. Demonstrations given by Beth Robbins on Arabian Horses and Amy Katz on Morgan horses. The next meeting will be a work session before the show on August 13th. The dub decided to have a club round-up on July 31. Members continued working on the projects. Cherri Gochnauer Club Reporter Lancaster Second In Livestock Judging Lancaster County’s 4-H Livestock Judging Team led by Mike Grube, a 4-Her from Elm, placed second in competition at the York County Livestock Judging Contest held recently. Mike, the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Harold Grube, placed first in hog judging, fourth in sheep with a 6th place overall score among 85 contestants. Lancaster followed with 1,196, Adams 1,175, Cumberland 1,161 and Chester 1,151. Other team members from Lancaster were Randy Hess, Ken Brubaker, and Kevin Rohrer.
