Cattle
Thursday, July 11
Weekly - 51 - Cattle -
Compared with last weeks
close.
Fed cattle prices moved
upward in post-holiday
trading, - the advantage
coming on modest opening
supplier and most of the
early upturn was held even
as marketings increased
substannally. Steers and
heifers 50-1.00 higher under
broad demand. Cows
SHEEP unevenl y 3.00-5.00 lower,
118 000 most downward pressure on
89 000 hi gh-Utility and Corn
-145000 mercial - Bulls turned 3.00-
’ 4.00 lower late.
Added to the stimulation of
higher prices was a seller
*1 pressure to move cattle
because of perisitent hot, dry
weather and continuing high
feed costs: early morning
unloads showed sharp in
crease over normal. The
current upswing marked the
fourth successive week of
advancing prices as the
average cost of steers rose
some 8.08 above mid-June
levels. The higher live prices
were solidly supported by
sharp upturns in carcass
beef and there was a good
inquiry for cattle to be
slaughtered at facilities
outside the immediate
Omaha area.
