close: in pre-holiday trading,
prices on slaughter steers
and heifers advanced 3.00-
3.50, instances 4.00 up in a
generally active trade even
on an expanded Tuesday run
of near 7,000. Cows lost an
early advance to close weak
to 50 lower but bulls were
1.00-2.00 higher.
Three day receipts 13,300
as compared 17,600 previous
week and 9,500 a year ago.
Slaughter steers made up
approximately 53 percent,
heifers 35 percent, steers
scaling above-1300 pounds
relatively scarce and much
of the heifer supply was good
to average-choice. Cows
made up 11 percent fed cattle
prices advanced sharply on a
modest initial supply,
stabilized on increased
Tuesday marketings and
then edged upward a bit
more at midweek.
