Leadership
Keynote of the FFA
Once again, the Lancaster
County (Red Rose) FFA
Chapter will hold an annual
Leadership Training Con
ference, this year the host
school will be Solanco, and
the Conference was held on
Thursday, May 9th.
What is a Leadership
Conference and why is one
held annually?
The answer to both
questions in part, is that a
Conference of this type is
held each year to introduce
individual Chapters’ newly
elected Officers to the county
officers as well as refresh
their memories as co the
duties of their respective
offices.
Leadership plays an im
portant ingredient in any
organization, particularly so
in the FFA. But what makes
a good leader, and what is
good leadership? Many
people subscribe to the
adage “Leaders are Made
not Born” and in many cases
think bou-matic
We’re big where it counts. So yon
can be too.
Big in capability. Dari-Kool
Bou-Matic milking systems are built
to match the total milking needs of
the big-herd dairyman. Fast milking.
Easy on udders. Rugged construc
tion. And dependable. Isn’t that
what you need too? No matter how
many cows you milk?
Big on udder health. Bou-Matic
systems help keep cows in the
milking line with a truly balanced
system: proper vacuum, inflations
and pulsation. Reduces udder irri
tation; increases milk production.
Big on result-oriented features. Like
electronically-timed twin-pulsation.
Equalizes milking, prevents over
milking of front quarters.
Big on parlor choice and size. From
herringbone, to the Bou-Matic
Carousel and Automated Polygon.
With low-level pipelines. There’s a
system set-up for where you are.
And where you want to be in
total milk production.
Big on service too. That’s the
professional specialty of your
Bou-Matio dealer. He knows how
to help you make more profit from
your dairy operation. No matter
how big you are. Or how big you
think. Just ask him.

this is very true. As in
coming greenhands, Fresh
men are exposed to a variety
of opportunities, by serving
on various committees and
working at various ac
tivities.
In advancing to greater
degrees in the FFA such as
Chapter Farmer, Red Rose
Farmer or Keystone Far
mer, an individual must
show increasing leadership
abilities These abilities are
most often demonstrated by
being selected as a Chapter
Officer.
Our next inquiry becomes
“What Makes a Good Of
ficer” 9 A partial listing of
qualities would include.
1 Willingness - being
available and desiring to
help in any matter relating
to your Chapter.
2. Dedication - a good
officer does not change
horses in the middle of the
stream nor will he let up
when obstacles tend to show
themselves in certain
matters.
3. Congeniality - the best
way to get people to work for
you is to work with them to
get things off the ground

Lancaster Farming. Saturday. May 11.1974
Sometimes you must bend
your personality to meet
those of others.
4. Sincerity - no one will
trust a two-faced officer.
Truthfulness is always the
best policy.
The FFA can build
leadership in any individual.
However, that individual
must take the initiative. Not
all leaders in government
were FFA members, but all

FFA members can become
leaders, if they are willing to
take on the responsibility
and are eager to serve their
organization. The FFA,
more so than any other
school organization, offers
that opportunity to develop
leadership abilities and also
offers the outlets to use those
abilities. Leadership is the
Keynote of the FFA!
