National 4-H Conference.
The Conference began April
20 and continued through
April 25 at the National 4-H
Center in Washington, D.C.
Some of the objectives of
the conference included
identifying some of the
major issues of concern to
youth today, discovering
action being taken by federal
government agencies and
Congress and how this af
fects the 4-H scene today,
and exchanging ideas with
other members at the con
ference to help strengthen 4-
H programs back home.
During the conference,
which officially opened
Saturday with a general
session at the National 4-H
Center, the young men and
women had an opportunity to
communicate face to face
with officials of more than 20
federal agencies as well as
.with their Senators and
Congressmen. Time was also
devoted to workshops in
interviewing and in
vestigative reporting

The visits to the federal
agencies took place on
Monday, with small groups

visited with their State
Senators and Represen
tatives on Capital Hill.
After meeting with the
federal officials, sessions at
the 4-H Center were largely
devoted to the theme of the
conference - “4-H Gets It All
Together”. Working as
teams, the young people
prepared reports on the
ways in which both Issues
and the Investigative process
can be applied to both local
and state 4-H programs. This
report session was held after
a special luncheon honoring
outstanding volunteer 4-H
leaders, and 4-H members
selected to be members of
the 4-H Report to the Nation
Team for 1974. Posters
submitted from every state
were on display during the
week, and the winning poster
announced at the closing
luncheon.
