Presents
Checks
Secretary of Agriculture
Jim McHale on April 10
presented checks to
representatives of six county
and community fair
associations, bringing to a
total of $llO,OOO the Com
monwealth’s share to
associations for capital
improvements made at
fairgrounds.
The other checks were
presented in ceremonies at
Meadville early last month.
The matching funds are
appropriated from harness
racing revenues for the
purpose of improving
buildings and grounds,
adding more land or con
structing new facilities for
the proper conduct of the
fairs. It was the first
disbursement under this act
in three years.
The Fair Funds Services,
Department of Agriculture,
paid out nearly $1.7 million
in the past fiscal year to
fairs, FFA groups, 4-H
development funds and
statewide agricultural
organizations.
Checks presented were:
Fulton County Fair, $7,000;
Franklin County Fair,
$11,000; Troy Fair, Bradford
County, $15,000; Great
Dallastown Fair, York
County, $4,000; Ship
pensburg Community Fair,
Cumberland County, $9,000;
and Carlisle Fair, Cum
berland County, $lO,OOO.
Eliminate Hazards
On The Farm
Cluttered stairways,
unsafe ladders, lack of
handrails in farm buildings,
and loose wires all con
tribute to the toll of many
fatal and painful farm ac
cidents. Keep stairs, halls
and alleyways free and clear
of obstructions. Check light
bulbs and clean lamp
shades. Good light makes
stairs and hallways safer,
reminds the Extension
Service Farm and Home
Safety Committee of The
Pennsylvania State
University.
