20—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, April 13. 1974 From the Senate Side Pennsylvanians un doubtedly will enjoy, many of the vacation and recreation opportunities available to them in their state during the coming vacation season. Officials have been predicting that as a result of the energy crisis people will do less long distance traveling this year. They’ll stay closer to home. They also predict a record season for camping, a form of recreation that has been growing over the years. Camping will be a lot more popular this year since it doesn’t require much traveling to get to a good camping site anywhere in the Commonwealth. Pennsylvania has 36 parks throughout the State that provide 6,400 camping sites, ranging from simple tenting sites to locations for tent trailers and travel trailers. A few parks even have cabins Tired of hand feeding? Cranky, fighting sows? Put Nutrena Sow-Matte in a self-feeder. Sow-Matic helps them limit their own in take, stay slim, keep satisfied. Simply, it means you now can reserve a camping site in any of the Com monwealth’s parks by making a reservation with the nearest Ticketron outlet. There are 60 outlets across the State. If none is con venient to you, you can make a reservation by mail. You can get an application form from any Park or Forestry office or from the Bureau of State Parks, Box 1467, Evangelical Press Building, Harrisburg, Pa., 17720. CARL J. The reservation fee is $1.50 for a single site for the length of your stay. Camping fees are $3 a night for sites with improved sanitary facilities, and $2 a night for sites with water pumps and pit toilets. The Bureau plans to start accepting reservations in mid April for the Memorial Day weekend. Normally, reservations open 90 days before the weekend being reserved, and cover the week from Saturday to the next Friday. Reservations can be made for all or any of the days in the seven-day period, or for more than one period. One thing the Bureau of Parks does emphasize is that reservations are not necessary to go camping. All of the parks will still operate on the old basis of renting available sites to anyone who arrives at a park without a reservation and there are sties open. Vern Miller- Top Pa. In addition, the law could result in a 12 percent loss of gasoline supplies, according to Hugh W. Elliott, President of the Penn sylvania ■ Petroleum Association (PPA). The Clean Air Act of 1970 specifies that starting this July, most service stations must have lead-free gasoline available, and that the lead content of all gasoline must be reduced 60 to 65 percent under a phase-down program starting in 1975. “This law will sub stantially boost the prices that motorists must pay and will contribute further to gasoline shortages,” Elliott noted.
