‘Rail Act’
Complacency
Cautioned
“There is no room for
complacency by any firm
whether on a (Rail) line
scheduled for abandonment
or not” warns PennAg
Industries Association, a
state-wide Pennsylvania
agribusiness association, in
its membership news letter
THE MILLWHEEL.
Penn Ag’s Board of
Directors are concerned that
agribusiness and the Penn
sylvania business com
munity as a whole, which
spent the last three weeks
testifying at hearings on the
Rail Reorganization Act, will
become complacent.
Ned L. Clark, PennAg
President, states that “now
is the time for agribusiness
firms to help gather data
concerning the economic
impact on their communities
caused by the loss of service.
PennAg believes that the
time for response to the U.S.
Railway Associations
Preliminary Plan, to be
announced in October, will
be very short. There will be
no time for gathering data
then.
Testimony given during
the last three weeks referred
to above, concerned the first
draft of the Rail

To fulfill the need for in
formation, PennAg is
planning a massive cam
paign, to be announced later,
to gather data on the
economic impact caused by
the loss of rail service to
agribusiness firms which
depend greatly on rail
service.
“Now is the time, during
the planning stages, for
everyone to work .toward an
effective efficient rail
system”, Clark stated. “The
effects of losing rail service
are hard for communities to
see, but in this case they
must be seen before the act
becomes reality.”
