Cows weak to mostly 50 cents lower, Bulls strong to 1.00 higher. Feeder supply hardly sufficient for market test. Four day receipts 15,400 as compared 11,700 previous week and 14,000 a year ago. Slaughter steers short 40 percent, heifers 34 percent, predominance high-Good to average-Choice. Cows 17 percent, feeders less than 5 percent. A bearish air of .caution and uncertainty covered the fed cattle trade. A huge backlog of carcass beef poured into the market stream and prices plum metted downward. Live trading followed a similar downward course and demand was often of an indifferent nature with the approaching non-slaughter holiday in some plants on February 18th adding to the bearishness. Supplies unevenly distributed over period with nearly 50 percent arriving on opening session. Modest volume high-Good and Choice 1000-1150 pound steers bought for shipment to Canada.
