Omaha Cattle Thursday, January 31 Despite a midweek sag, closing prices on slaughter steers and heifers were 1.00- 2.00 higher than the full dose of the proceeding week. Cows closed 50 cents lower and bulls weak. The feeder supply was hardly sufficient to afford a good test of the trade. Four day receipts 18,500 as compared 25,600 previous week and 15,700 a year ago. Slaughter steers ap proximately 45 percent, heifers 32 percent, overall finish attractive although many carrying considerable mud. Cows 12 percent, feeders 5 percent. Fed cattle prices con tinued to follow a very erratic pattern with wide day-to-day fluctuations. A Monday run of only 3300 sparked a sharp upturn in forced trading as buyers scrambled for numbers to meet immediate requirements, However, much of the advance on steers was lost as supplies expanded and there was a growing concern over the availability of transportation facilities for moving the finished product eastward, and particularly beyond Chicago.
