Lee Yost, reported the
rather startling fact that the
Grand Champion Guernsey
at the 1974 Farm Show had
produced an annual record
of over 21,000 pounds of milk,
Good Guernsey cattle are
now selling at higher prices
than ever before, reflecting
the high demand for the
fewer high quality animals
that are available. National
Director Raymond Witmer
of Lancaster reported that
while registrations of
purebred Guernseys are
down 12 percent, the demand
for high quality animals is
increasing.
The four-county Guernsey
organization will be headed
this year by Robert Smith,
RDI, Annville, the newly
elected president. Other
officers elected at Satur
day’s meeting are: Warren
Bucher, RD2, Myerstown,
vice president; Carl
Hollenbach, secretary; and
Lloyd Dreibelbis, treasurer.
Warren Bucher, outgoing
president, presided over the
meeting.
Special 4-H Farm Show
awards were given to Jeff
Smith, Frank Oellig, Bonita
Oellig, Dale Smith and David
Smith. Recognition for ex
cellence in FFA Guernsey
projects was given to Marlin
Dietrich, Jacob Leiby and
Bruce Maulfair.
