Lancaster Farming, Saturday, January 12,1974 USIA Annual Meeting Set for February 18-20 The Nation’s dairy leaders will gather in Atlanta, Georgia February 18-20 for the 1974 Annual Meeting of the United Dairy Industry Association (UDIA) and its family of organizations - American Dairy Association (ADA), National Dairy Council (NOC) and Dairy Research Inc. (DRINC). The UDIA family is responsible for national programs of U. S. Red Meat Production up 4% Pennsylvania’s com mercial slaughter of red meat animals during November was up for cattle, sheep and lambs and down for calves and hogs from a year ago according to the Crop Reporting Service. Beef production increased 7 percent and lamb and mutton 12 percent. Veal production decreased 28 percent and pork 9 percent. Nationally, total red meat production during November was up 4 percent from November a year ago. Decreases of 1 percent were recorded for beef, 18 percent for veal, 7 percent for pork and 11 percent for lamb and mutton. Lard production, totalling 113 million pounds, was down 17 percent. This will be the first An nual Meeting since new by laws were adopted to im plement the single governing body and management concept for the organizations which was approved in principle at the 1973 Annual Meeting a year ago. The UDIA House of Delegates, which is the overall governing body, has scheduled two sessions, a business meeting Monday morning, Feb. 18 and a program session Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 19. On Tuesday afternoon, Delegates will hear presentations reviewing 1973 progress and describing 1974 programs. Included will be presentations on advertising and sales promotion, new product and process development, nutrition education and research, marketing and economic research and com munications. Following Tuesday’s general session, the New UDIA Board will hold its organization meeting at which the officers for the coming year will be elected. National Dairy Council will hold its annual mem bership meeting as well as a Board of Directors meeting on Wednesday morning. NDC also will conduct general sessions on Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning in which a number of prominent speakers will participate. UDIA was created in 1971 by dairy producers to coordinate their national programs of promotion, education and research, and to channel their promotion dollars in the most effective manner. Under the new by laws, they now have a single national organization to speak with “one voice" for the dairy industry. 7
