Compared with last week’s
close, Slaughter steers and
heifers 2.00-2.50 higher Cows and
bulls steady to 50 higher.
Moderate supply feeder cattle
1 50-2.00 higher.
Three day receipts in holiday
shortened week, 14,000 as com
pared 13,700 the previous week
and 12,900 a year ago Slaughter
steers 42 percent, heifers 34
percent, cows 12 percent, and
feeders 11 percent. In the holiday
shortened week, fed cattle prices
advanced sharply under good
demand by most buying interests
although Canadian demand was
quite moderate The sharp price
upturn was supported by
stronger prices at the wholesale
carcass level. There was
noticeably less pressure on
Choice yield grade 3-4 1200-1350
pound steers, and feeder buyers
competed aggressively for partly
fattened steers suitable for a
short turn in the feedlot. Overall
finish attractive with liberal
percentage Choice and moderate
number high-Choice and Prime.
A moderate volume of steers and
hiefers continued to carry con
siderable mud
