Yearbook of Agriculture
Is A Guide for Families
Secretary of Agriculture Earl
L. Butz recently announced
publication of a guide to help
families use their incomes to best
advantage.
“Handbook for the Home,” the
new Yearbook of Agriculture,
“suggests ways that families can
live fuller, more secure, and
more satisfying lives, and helps
them avoid costly pitfalls of all
kinds,” the secretary says in a
Foreword to the volume.
“It gathers a great wealth of
consumer material into some 400
compact pages, and is a book for
families. It centers around the
home - whether home is a
suburban house, a country place,
or a city apartment.”
“The more knowledgeable
consumers this nation has,”

“Handbook for the Home” is
hardback, contains 78 chapters,
more than 190 photographs, and
is based mainly on federal or

$5.70 from the Superintendent of
Documents, U.S. Government
Printing Office, Washington, D.

Congress has a limited number of
copies for free distribution to

The Agriculture Department
has no copies for public
distribution or sale.
Major sections of the book are
—Families -- which includes
among its subjects living costs,
records, money management

sumer tips, indoor gardening,
and camping and recreational

“This Yearbook cannot begin
to go into full detail on the many
sujects it covers,” Secretary
Butz says in the Foreword. “It
can only give highlights. So
Suggested Further Reading lists
are given at the end of many
chapters. The Yearbook’s
readers are also referred to such
valuable sources of information
as State Extension services,
trade associations, public utility
companies, consumer
magazines, and consumer
columns in newspapers.”
The Yearbooks of Agriculture
are written in popular style, and
devoted to an entirely hew
