A few days ago a man came to
our house and inquired as to
where my parents live now, as he
found their house and barn were
torn down for a new highway.
When he told me his name, I
couldn’t believe it, as “Bill” was
a teenager in my minds eye and
not a man almost 70. He had been
my fathers hired boy and I only
remembered him as the boy who
painted his name all over the
summerhouse boards.
Sometimes when I shop at a
grocery or hardware store in a
nearby community, where I
haven’t been for a few years, I’ll
see someone who gives my mind
a jolt. After pondering a moment,
I realize with a shock that I’m
seeing the son or daughter of the
person I first thought about. It
seems family similarities can’t
be hidden. And thus we are all
swept along in the current of life
and we get older whether we are
ready or not.
It is difficult to get a few
moments peace around here.

overnight, I sat down to read the
Sunday paper on Monday mor
ning before doing the washing.
Just then, the phone rang and a
lady told me our heifers were in
her yard. As Allen was still
milking, I set out alone to get
them back into the pasture. What
I discovered was that a hunter
had let the meadow gate hang
open.
After hunting a bit I found a car
parked along our back woods and
a hunter across the field. When I
asked him about the gate, he
denied any knowledge of it and
informed me that my husband
had already talked to him about
it.
Fondue For Fun
The fondue pot is a simple
route to happy hospitality When
the beef cubes are bubbling so
will be the conversation Prepare
plenty of steak, cut in 1-inch
cubes and place in refrigerator
until ready to cook along with
accompanying sauces Pour oil
into fondue pot to a depth of 2
inches and place over direct heat
on range and bring to 375*F Re
move and place over alcohol
bumner or canned heat to main
tain temperature Spear steak
cubes, one at a time, and hold
beef in hot oil until cooked to de
sired degree of doneness For
rare allow approximately 1 min
ute; medium, 2 minutes If oil
cools so it no longer bubbles

Planned Thurs.
A special holiday meeting,
sponsored by the Chester County
Extension Service, will be held
from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Tuesday, November 27 at the
West End Fire Company,
Coatesville.
The program will include a
demonstration on making
creative Christmas decorations
by Mrs. Anna Stoltzfus. “Holiday
Plants” will be presented by
Thompson V. Palmer, a hor
ticulture instructor at the West
Chester Night School.
Interested persons are also inv
ited to bring hand crafted gift
ideas to display, including
directions if it’s not obvious how
it’s made.
