During the meeting, two
members were named to 'the
board of directors for the Federal
Land Bank Association, and one
was named to the PCA board.
Jacob N. Smith, current
president of the FLBA board, was
reelected. Smith is a dairy far
mer from Annville RDI. Clarence
G. Mase, Lebanon RDS, was
newly elected to the board.
Wilmer B. Campbell, a
Dauphin County dairyman from
Halifax RDI, was reelected to the
PCA board.
The nominating committee for
the 1974 meeting were also
elected. They are Charles E.
Lefever, 1097 Snapper Dam
Road, Lancaster, David M.
Garber, Marietta RDI, and Jay
H. Rohrer, Manheim RD2.

Youths Honored at
Co . Holstein Fete
Lancaster County Holstein
Association members held their
annual meeting Tuesday night at
the Good ’n Plenty Restaurant,
Smoketown. Three junior
members were honored for their
achievements in the past year,
and three dairymen were named
to the association’s board of
directors.
The county’s distinguished
junior members for this year
are Greg Landis and Linda
Kauffman. Greg is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Jay Landis, Lancaster
RD6, and a graduate of Penn
Manor High School. After Greg
had accepted his plaque for the
county award, it was announced
that he was also in the running for
the same honor on the state level.
Every year, the Pennsylvania
Holstein-Friesian Association
names six finalists for state
competition, three boys and three
girls. Greg is one of the three
boys in contention, and will be
traveling to Penn State next week
to compete for the state title.
Linda Kauffman is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Kauffman, Elizabethtown RDI.
Recognition also went to Ruby
Ginder, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Robert E. Ginder, Elizabethtown
RD3. Ruby won the calf
presented annually to an out
standing FFA student in the
county during the yearly FFA
judging contest, held this year
during the Manheim Community
Fair. Ruby was the first girl to
win the award.
There were six nominees for
three spots on the association’s
board of directors. Elected were
Galen W. Crouse, Stevens RDI,
Albert E. Fry, Manheim RD2,
and Clair M. Hershey, Not
tingham RDI.
During the meeting, the
members heard from Ray
Cleaver, representing the
national association. Cleaver
talked about the importance of
breeding programs that em
phasize type and longevity as
well as production.
Elam Bollinger, county
president, recapped the local
group’s activities for the past
year. Elvin Hess, Jr., president
of the state Holstein association,
spoke briefly as did state director
Clarence Stauffer. Also heard
from were Ralene Harbold,
Lancaster County Dairy Prin
cess, Alan Bair of the county
extension staff, and Carl Brown
of the Pennsylvania Holstein
Association.
