32—Lancaster Farming. Saturday, October 27, 1973 I Farm Women | Societies Society 3 Farm Women Society 3 met Saturday, October 20, at the home of Mrs. Clarence Stauffer, Ephrata RDI. After a short business meeting members and friends visited the homes open for Lancaster County Day. The following officers were elected for the 1974 year; Mrs. Jesse Balmer, Lititz RDI, president; Mrs. John Edwards, Ephrata RDI, vice-president; Mrs. Earl Smoker, Stevens RDI, secretary; Mrs. Earl Miller, Hopeland, assistant secretary; Mrs. Ivan Eberly, Ephrata, treasurer. Members will sew cancer pads for the Lancaster County Cancer Society November 7. The Society will sponsor a child who is a patient at the Hamburg State School. A contribution of $25 was given to United Way and a contribution of $250 was given to the Goodwill Industries current fund drive. A square dance was planned for members and families at the Mount Airy Fire Company hall Friday evening, October 26. The next meeting of Society 3 will be held November 17 at USED N.C.R. Farm Women Society 8 met last Saturday at the home of Mrs. Alice Myers, Mount Joy RD. Miss Anna Mae Eby, president, was in charge of the meeting. There were 24 members and four visitors present. Mrs. Emma Good read an appropriate tribute in memory of Mrs. Anna Groff, a member of the Society who passed away recently. A devotional passage was also read. Mrs. Ann Shank played several piano selections in tribute to Mrs. Groff. A note of appreciation was read from Mrs. Sadie Brooks for the contribution to the dental clinic. Miss Mary Grace Martin, secretary, read the minutes and Mrs. Grace Bixler gave the treasurer’s report. Guest speaker for the afternoon was Mrs. Martha Gehman who gave timely tips for carefully choosing coordinating interior decorations for the home. She gave helpful suggestions for proper care and cleaning of carpets, drapes and furniture. Hostesses were Mrs. Alice Myers, Miss Anna Mae Eby, Miss Ruth Eby and Lizzie Keener. The date for sewing at the General Hospital is October 30 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The County Convention will be held November 3 at Lancaster School of the Bible. The next meeting will be held at 2 p.m. November 17 at the Lutheran Church, Mount Joy. Mrs. Norman Shenk will demonstrate decoupage. Farm Women Society 9 met recently in the home of Mrs. Grant Miller, Ironville, with Mrs. Clarence Carter, Miss Clare LANDIS BROS., INC. Ph: 393-3906 1305 Manheim Pike Lancaster, Pa. 17601 Society 8 Society 9 Gardner and Mrs. William Gring as assisting hostesses. Mrs. J. Edward Brenneman led devotions. During the business portion of the meeting officers were reelected. They are: Mrs. Paul Zercher, president; Mrs. Marguerite Kreider, vice president; Mrs. Merle Huber, treasurer, and Mrs. Floyd Mine, corresponding secretary. The group gave a donation to the United Way and plan to stuff envelopes for LARC fund drive mailings. Several members participate on November 1,2 and 3 in the Blair Room of the Health Center, Janet Avenue. Plans were finalized for a display to be held in conjunction with the Homemakers Christmas program November 15 at the Farm and Home Center. Other future dates announced were the annual Lancaster County Farm Women Convention November 3 at Lancaster Bible College, and the State Convention planned for January 7 and 8. Society 9 will send two delegates. The next meeting will be held November 8 at the home of Mrs. Wilbur Heller, Berry Dale Farm, 53 Kendig Road, Conestoga RDI. Baskets of fruit will be packed and distributed to shut-ins of the area. Society 18 Farm Women Society 18 met Saturday, October 20 at Bird-in- Hand Restaurant for a banquet with husbands as guests. Mrs. Aaron H. Denlinger, Paradise, County president, and her husband were honored guests. Following the dinner Jack Fish from the Toastmasters’ Speakers’ Bureau gave an illustrated talk on “A Changeable Talk About the Wind”, focusing on the many kinds of weather vanes there are. During the brief business session a contribution was voted to United Way. Final plans for the County Convention November 3 were made. Announcement was made for the holiday workshop to be held at the next meeting of the Society, November 17, at the home of Mrs. David E. Buck waiter. The program committee, with Mrs. I Wayne Brubaker serving as chairman, made arrangements for the banquet. Decorations and prizes were M planned for by the social com mittee including Mrs. Harold D. Kimmel, chairman; Mrs. Richard Hershey; Mrs. Charles Burkins; Mrs, Jerome Brubaker; Mrs. John Henry Hess; Mrs. J. Wilbert Carper, and Mrs. Martin Swan*. Society 29 Farm Women Society 29 en tertained patients at Philhaven Hospital Monday evening. There were 20 members present. Mrs. Sandy Ober was in charge of devotions. Mrs. Doris Wenger gave a skit on “Grandma’s Apron”. Mrs. Judy Erb presented a series of slides which showed the four seasons. Mrs. Vernie Ranck closed the program with a short witch skit. The Society’s new program chairman, Mrs. Shirley Garner, gave a run-down of the new year. The committee members are: Mrs. Bonnie Becker, Mrs. Janis Drager, Mrs. Nancy Sawadsky, Mrs. Sharon Heistand and Mrs. Carolyn Newcomer. Mrs. Denlinger, county president, was also a guest. A $25 donation to the Needlework Guild of Lancaster was approved. In other business, it was announced that Society 31 has 17 members going to the County Convention Saturday, November 3 at the Lancaster School of the Bible. Two mem bers, Mrs. Connie Rutt and Mrs. Charlotte Trimble, will represent the Society in the fashion show. The treasury was boosted recently when Glenn Fite donated the proceeds from the sale of a calf to the Society for having the food stands at his sales. The program for the evening included musical selections by the Hershey children and two demonstrations by Mrs. Kathy Bucher. She showed how to make candle rings from scraps of material and fruit from styrofoam. The next meeting will be a cookie swap November 19 at the home of Mrs. Harriet Spayd.
