The average American family of four generates 25 to 30 pounds of household trash each week. It’s predicted that this figure will increase to about 50 pounds a week by 1980. We can’t make our trash problem disappear but it can be cut down to size. One way is the use of a trash compactor to reduce paper, cans, cartons and bottles to one-quarter of their original volume. A trash compactor can help eliminate the rising cost of solid waste disposal-an expense that ranks third in government ex penses behind education and roads. Using a trash compactor, you can reduce a week’s ac cumulation of trash to one bag. And you still need garbage cans because the bags tear and are subject to animal bites and scratches. There are monetary savings in garbage collection when you use a trash compactor. However it will not mash food wastes as a garbage disposal does. Before you buy a trash compactor, consider if this is really a con venience you want and can af ford. In addition, the grade shield means that the broccoli has been tested for a mild, sweet flavor and that each stalk is practically free from defects. Grade B is the other quality level available. Grade B frozen broccoli may have slightly spread bud clusters, but it is still of good quality and costs a little less than Grade A.
