Poultry Market Reports
Ready to cook movement very
light and disappointing. Offerings
freely made failing to stimulate
needed interest to effect desired
clearances. Slaughter schedules
generally curtailed as several
plants not operating today. Less
than trucklot prices ranged 2
cents lower on both plant and US
Grade A. Advance interest slow
in developing as buyers and
sellers await further market
developments. Live supplies
burdensome with occasional
heavy lots moving to canner
processors. Undertone weak and
unsettled.
Pool trucklot prices for
Thursday arrival US Grade A 39-
44, mostly 40; Plant Grade 38-42,
mostly 39.
Omaha Cattle
Thursday, October 18
Compared with last week’s
close: closing prices slaughter
steers unevenly 50-1.50 lower with
many yield grade 2-3 975-1100
pounds 1.00-1.50 off, moderate
volume Standard and low-Good
mainly Holsteins steady. Heifers
50-1.00 lower. Cows 50-1.00 higher.
Bulls strong to 1.00 higher.
Feeders strong to 50 higher early,
closing mostly steady.
Four day receipts 19,100 as
compared 17,100 previous week
and 18,200 a year ago. Slaughter
steers approximately 35 percent,
heifers 32 percent cows 11 per
cent and feeders 18 percent.
Overall finish steer and heifer
supply fairly attractive with
liberal percentage Choice. A
fairly generous Monday
slaughter supply met with good
demand at generally steady
prices. Weight and yield grade
continued to be the major price
determining factors with an
expanded cadre of Canadian
buyers aggressive for numbers
early. However, prices trended
downward on later sessions as
carcass prices declined and
demand by Canadian interests
lessened as a reflection of dif
ficulty in securing transportation
to move livestock to Canadian
facilities. Best inquiry centered
strongly on 975-1100 pound steers
with feeder buyers fairly
aggressive for partly fattened
950-1050 pounds suitable for short
turn in feedlot.
