—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, October 13, 1973 36 ______ When cooking, match the size Motorists must File Report With State after Accidents aw 1 Motorists involved in accidents who fail to file accident reports are costing the taxpayers money and hindering the State Tran sportation Department in its efforts to eliminate highway hazards, John J. Zogby, Director of Penn DOT’S Bureau of Ac cident Analysis, said. “The law says that a driver involved in an automobile ac cident resulting in death, injury or more than $2OO damage must Pork Information To Restaurant In a continuing producer sponsored effort to get more pork on the menus of restaurants and food services, the National Pork Producers Council is furnishing needed information to managers and operators. As a major thrust in this effort, the Cornell Quar terly, m cooperation with the National Pork Producers Council, is presenting a special two-part insert in the August and November editions. Jhe in formative, factual, illustrated insert, “Pork For Gracious Dining,” will total more than 40 pages. The Cornell Quarterly, a widely-read food service publication, is considered the leading authority by members of the profession. Published by the School of Hotel Ad ministration at Cornell University, it is dedicated to disseminating technical knowledge and new research information to restaurants, hotels, hospitals and other food service establishments It reaches thousands of owners and managers across the nation quarterly The special factual pork edition gives details for profitable use of pork, including recipes and in formation on purchasing, cutting, cooking and serving pork m large-quantity food establish ments, as well as facts about pork itself, according to Monte Flett, NPPC Promotion Director. Professor Robert Rust, lowa State University, prepared the m depth introductory article on fresh pork’s nutritional qualities and how to purchase and store to assure the highest quality. Ph 717-866-2138 file a report' with Penn DOT within five days,” Zogby said. “Even though this is the law, over 20 percent of drivers in volved in accidents ignore it.” Zogby cited a recent survey made by PennDOT’s Bureau of Accident Analysis on 1,000 drivers involved in accidents. Of these, 218 failed to file a report within 30 days. They were then sent letters reminding them to file a report, but even then, 85 Personnel Louis Szatnmary, iniei nationally known food management con sultant, restauranteur and owner of the Bakery in Chicago, gives step-by-step instructions, illustrated with photos and drawings, on preparation of pork for gourmet and gracious oc casions Professor Myrtle Ericson, Cornell University, with the assistance of Ann Norman, Director of Consumer Relations, NPPC, developed the series of eight tested quantity pork recipes. Plan now to attend this sale, as quality pays in many ways still failed to file. “Most motorists cooperate and send in their accident reports promptly,” Zogby continued. “But 20 percent don’t. And this group causes us more work than the 80 percent who report on time. “The extra clerical work in volved in getting people to file reports and in handling late reports is costly. It is also completely unnecessary. “All accident reports are analyzed and used to determine high accident areas. Many high way hazards are not obvious and can only be spotted by checking the frequency of accidents at a given location. “Also, good accident statistics are necessary to guide our driver licensing, training and law en forcement programs. “We must depend on individual motorists to send in reports because police are not required to submit accident reports, and, in fact, in over one third of all ac cidents they don’t. “I urge all drivers involved in accidents to send in their reports promptly. It’s easy, it only takes a'few minutes, and the single page report form can be obtained from any police station and many insurance agents and motor clubs,” Zogby concluded.
