Inspection
Director
Dr. Melvin J. Hatter has been
appointed the Northeastern
Regional Director of the U.S.
Department of Agriculture’s
meat and poultry inspection
program, it was announced in
Washington by the agency’s
Animal and Plant Health and
Inspection Service.
In his new post Dr. Hatter will
supervise the Federal inspection
program in a 13-state area -
stretching from Maine to
Virginia - as well as in the
District of Columbia. He will
assume his new position in
Philadelphia October 29.
Dr. Hatter has been associated
with the USDA’s meat inspection
program for the past 34 years.
His most recent position has been
as Area Supervisor in Topeka,
Kansas. Previous to that, he had
been the director in both the
northcentral and southeastern
regions.
A native of Cleveland, Dr.
Hatter earned his doctorate in
veterinary medicine from Ohio
State University
Hatter will replace Dr. George
Harner, who will be in charge of
the southeastern region. The
realignment of regional directors
was brought about because Dr.
N B Isom former southeastern
regional director, asked for a
transfer to the southwestern
office for personal family
reasons. Dr. Isom had been
southeastern regional director.
Dr. Kenneth 0. McDougall will
remain in the Philadelphia office
as Dr. Hatter’s deputy.
