Conservation District
Adopts Goals, Budget
A list of goals and objectives,
along with a $17,000 budget for
the coming year, were adopted
by the Lancaster County Con
servation District at their recent
monthly meeting in the Farm and
Home Center.
Among the areas they’d like to
concentrate on in the coming
year, the directors noted a need
for more conservation education.
They said they’ll try to reach out
to more young people and land
owners with an intensified
publicity program and the
establishment of a speakers
bureau.
Erosion and sediment control is
another area of prime concern.
Seminars on the clean streams
law, and the need to promote
effective watershed associations
were mentioned as measures to
promote more awareness of the
problems. The district will also
explore the advisability of
becoming an enforcement
agency with powers to act
against clean streams law
violators.
The directors voted to continue
the encouragement of proper
land use policies by local
governments and to support
An amazing feed that has cured hundreds of
horses afflicted with heaves. No longer is there
any need to destroy or lose valuable horses
that show symptoms of heaves.
• No additional roughage or grain required
• Keeps horses in top condition
• Supplies complete nutritional needs
• All-in-one feeding program

federal and state land use
legislation and policy. They also
agreed to push for the in
corporation of erosion and
sediment control provision in the
Lancaster County subdivision
ordinance.
Flood plain management was
another area singled out for
action, and the directors voted to
encourage the adoption of ef
fective flood plain legislation.
Thousand-Legged Worms
a Nuisance
If you see slow crawling
animals about one or two inches
long invading the basement, they
may be millipedes, (thousand
legged worms), or centipedes
(hundred-legged worms). Both
are common in yards around
mulched shrubbery. They will
invade houses under certain
conditions, says Extension en
tomologists at The Pennsylvania
State University. Although a
nuisance, they will not damage
food or household furnishings.

tension Service (county agent)
