Compared with last week’s
close: closing prices slaughter
steers 1.00-2.00 higher, some 975-
1100 pound 2.50 higher. Heifers
1.00-1.50 higher. Cows 5.00-6.00
higher, bulls 2.00-3.00 higher.
Small feeder supply 2.504.00
higher.
Four day receipts 13,700 as
compared 11,200 previous week
and 16,900 a year ago. Slaughter
steers approximately 32 percent,
heifers 35 percent, cows 11
percent and feeders near 20
percent including Friday auction
receipts. Fed cattle trade
followed a highly erratic course
with closing prices higher than
late the previous week for a first
time in seven weeks.On a meager
Monday run when receipts were
curtailed by resistance to sharp
price declines and by heavy rains
which made livestock movement
difficult, prices were forced
sharply upward but part of the
early advance was erased on
later sessions as marketings
expanded. Canadian buyers
aggressive for high-Good and
Choice 975-1100 pound steers with
weight and yield grade the
primary price determining
factors. Despite need for cattle,
most buyers reluctant to acquire
1200-1325 pound yield grade 4-5
steers in view of a price dif
ferential ranging up to 15.00 or
more on these carcasses as
compared with 600-700 pounds
yield grade 3.
