Revised Stock Feeding
Course Now Available
With agricultural prices in a
stage of flux the economical use
of feed grains and roughages
demands increasing attention
from livestock feeders.
Penn State University’s
recently revised correspondence
course dealing with stock feeding
treats this subject in a very
comprehensive manner.
Starting with the digestive
organs of the various classes of
meat animals, the author
discusses the functions of feeds in
the animal body, the
classification and constituents of
our feeds, the computation of
rations and the use of roughages.
These are discussed in detail for
the various classes of livestock,
making the course extremely
useful to the feeder as a feeding
reference.
The course incorporates the
latest results of research in the
area of stock feeding.
Enrollment may be made by
writing to Box 5000, University
Park, Pennsylvania 16802. Ask
for Stock Feeding, and include
your check in the amount of $4.00
payable to Penn State University.
The course will come to you
complete in one copy.

The concept of growing corn on
land that has not been previously
prepared by conventional tillage
methods such as plowing is not
new to Lebanon County.
However, the complete no-tillage
system has now become practical
on a larger scale with the in
troduction of new, heavy-duty
planters, especially designed to
plant corn in heavy sod cover
without pre-tillage. The success
of the new techniques depends
upon the use of specific chemical
herbicides which destroy
growing cover crops, and leave a
residue or mulch on the surface
of the soil.
Zero-tillage is recognized as a
prime conservation system in
modern agriculture. Soil and
water losses are greatly reduced,
while at the same time, energy
consumed in producing a crop is
conserved.
Two tours of zero-tilled corn
fields will be available to county
farmers on Tuesday, September
18. Tour one will assemble at the
