Wentink Favors
Mandatory LP
Fuel Allocation
In a statement filed today at a
U S. Department of the Interior
hearing, Hendrik Wentink,
president of the Northeastern
Poultry Producers Council,
declared NEPPCO’s support for
a proposed mandatory allocation
program for propane (LP) gas
Last June, NEPPCO joined
with the National Broiler Council
and eleven other poultry
•associations in testimony before
a Senate subcommittee and the
Oil Policy Hearing Committee
requesting a mandatory
allocation program.
“We are pleased that such a
program has now been
proposed,” Wentink told the
Interior Department today.
“Without some assurance that
they can obtain the heating fuel
they need this winter (principally
butane and propane),
poultrymen will be forced to cut
back on production at the very
time when we face a national
demand for increasing food
supplies.”
The proposed program would
grant priorities on the allocation
of LP gas used for agricultural
production (including the rearing
of chickens and turkeys), food
processing, mass transit
operation, hospitals and nursing
homes, and residential cooking
and heating.
Wentink concluded his
statement with a strong plea that
the proposed mandatory
allocation program be im
plemented without delay.
