Recruiting (Continued From Page 1) raised pay rates for testers, we kept the farmers’ cost at the same level' When we get our reserves whittled down to where we think they should be, then we’ll have to take another look at our rates.” One cost that’s been going against the general trend has been Penn State’s charge for maintaining computerized records, Robert Kreider, delegate to the state association, told the meeting. “Processing records is actually getting cheaper,” Kreider said, “because the newer computers are so much more efficient. Computerized life history sheets will be available to all DHIA members shortly, and they won’t cost us anything extra.” Kreider said the computerized life history sheets will be prepared over the next few Z SWtORAFT Model CS-10 Calf Stalls plus t CS-10P Calf Stall end panel Overall Langlh •• Hgtil. from Floor Width 717-464-3321 months as DHIA testers send back records to the university. These can be used instead of the old life history sheets, but if the farmer wants his old sheets kept up, it will be the tester’s responsibility to maintain them. Discussing benefits for testers, the group voted to support a move by the state association to investigate a retirement program. Several sources of retirement funds were men tioned, with the strongest can didate seeming to be a one-cent per cow per month payment by members and an equal amount paid by testers. Kreider said the program would take a number of years until it was working properly, and that it would be difficult inadequately reward the men and women who’ve been working for a long time without any pension program The pension plan woidd probably cost the State DHIA about $50,000 annually, Kreider noted. In other action, the board voted to continue health insurance coverage for supervisors at its present level. The county association presently pays the full cost of a tester’s health in surance coverage, but does not pay anything for members of his family. The board also voted to hold a joint meeting with the super visors sometime in the near future, Watgl IDO lbs 40 lbs Lancaster Farming, Saturday.
