Thursday the schedule of events includes dairy cattle judging at 1 p.m. and the baby parade from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. unless it rains and then it will be held Friday at 10 a.m. It is handled by the Willow Street Women’s Club. They take care of entries before the fair. Money prizes are provided for it and the Blue Ball Fire Hall Blue Ball March 23-6:30 P.M. 411 W. A talent contest will be held between 7:30 and 8 p.m. Martin Mylin Junior High School Band will perform from 8 to 8:30 p.m. The Fair Queen contest will be held 8:30 to 9:15 p.m. There will be a girl from each class at Lampeter-Strasburg High School competing, eliminations having been held previously at school. The livestock parade will be held from 9:15 to 9:45 p.m. Friday the ever-popular All Western Horse Show will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. It is handled by a separate committee and the people who participate are mostly local people. A calf roping contest will take place at 6:30 p.m. The FFA fat hog con signment sale set for 8 p.m. could very well be the highlight of the Fair this year. Handiwork and baked goods exhibits are located on the first floor of the Community Building and flowers in the basement. The Community Building will be demolished by next year and the assoc ation will use the fire hall, i Art, some farm crops, fruit, nuts and canned goods are in the office building. There are two com mercial tents and the animals, fresh vegetables and eggs are in tents. Mr. and Mrs. Andrews are both fair directors and serve on the summer activity committee. The family picnic was held August 9 on the fair grounds. It consisted of a covered dish meal, games for the children and a short business meeting. It is a fellowship affair held each year. Fair workers find little time to get exhibits ready for the fair but Mrs. Donnelly plans to exhibit a knitted sweater, an afghan and some canned goods. Dottie Donnelly and Edith Andrews are both active women in their community. Both are members of Lampeter Fire Company Auxiliary and Dotty is Chaplain. Her husband helps the fire company with their ac tivities. The auxiliary meets once a month. They help at two festivals, serve food for two dog shows, serve breakfast, sand wiches, home-made pies and cakes for the lunch Mother’s Day and Labor Day Sunday, serve refreshments for two shooting matches and have food stands at a couple sales a year. In the spring they had a soup sale when they sold chicken com soup by the quart, pies and cakes and they also had a garage sale. Mr. and Mrs. Donnelly live m Willow Street and have a 19 month old daughter, Jan Lynette. John works at Alcoa in Lancaster and is treasurer of their credit» union. Dotty, who was a com mercial student before she graduated from Lampeter- Strasburg High School, does his bookkeeping. There are 300 in their credit union. It is a savings and loan union for Alcoa’s em ployes. This is old stuff for Dotty after working 10 years for Raub Credit Corporation when she worked in Raub Supply office. Donnellys belong to First Church of God, Charlotte and Chestnut Streets, Lancaster, where Dotty plays the piano for Sunday School, helps in the church nursery, is a member of the Women’s Society of Christian Service and is secretary of her Sunday School class. John is one of the secretaries of his Sunday School class also. John is a member of Southern Lancaster County Sportsman Association. He and a friend have a hunting cabin in Franklin County where they hunt deer and turkeys and the family enjoys going there in the summer. He also loves to hunt small game, has a Labrador Retriever dog which he uses to hunt ducks and he fishes a lot. He practices taxidermy as a hobby, having mounted several ducks and animals for himself and a few for a friend. Dorothy is an expert seam stress, having taken summer courses for two or three years at Singers. She does a lot of sewing such as making dresses, suits and made all the drapes for their house. Sewing is one of her three hobbies. Another one is knitting. Her third hobby is gardening She'' has a garden with her parents. They just planted 250 celery plants. She does a lot of canning for their own use. Edith Andrews is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Garfield Myers of Drumore Township. She grew up on the farm and worked outside then as well as after she was married. She and Leßoy live on a 75 acre farm on Penn Grant Road, in West Lampeter Township and own an adjoining 75 acre farm, part of which they have made into a development known as Hans Herr Village There are many beautiful homes in their development. They have also restored, improved and built onto the beautiful old stone house in which they live. They keep 45 to 50, mostly registered, Holstein cows and as many young animals. They have a farmer who does their farming Leßoy has been in the ex cavating business for 36 years and works all over Lancaster County as well as some outside the county. He excavates for cellars for houses, schools and industry, does terracing and stripping farm land, bulldozing and trenching. His shop and office is in Willow Street. He employs 25 to 28 men and one office girl. Edith used to take telephone calls and man the two way radio between their house and the trucks when he operated from their home. Andrews have three children. Rose Mary married Beauman Lackey from North Carolina. They live on a farm in Washington Boro and have three sons. Rose Mary is a good organist and plays for their church in Millersville. Burnell married Mary Ann McCollough from Strasburg RD. They have two girls and a boy. They live in Hans Herr Village. Burnell has been in the ex cavating business with his dad for three years. Grace is married to Rev. William Emery 111 who is pastor of Eastminster Presbyterian (Continued On Page 32) 23
