week’s close: Slaughter steers
1.50-2.00 lower, mostly 1.50 lower.
Heifers 50-75 c lower. Cows closed
1.25-1.50 lower, bulls fully steady.
Feeder cattle 2.00-3.00 lower.
Four day receipts 11,870 as
compared with 15,250 previous
week and 14,725 a year ago.
Slaughter steers approximately
32 percent, heifers 30 percent,
mainly Good and average Choice,
only small showing high-Choice
and Prime. Cows 14 percent,
feeders 16 percent.
Monday’s slaughter cattle
offering the largest in six weeks
and price decline sharply as
packer buyers operated very
cautious and selective. The
week’s supply was poorly
distributed over the trading
period when more than 50 percent
arrived on Monday. Part of the
early decline was regained later
under fairly reliable demand
with the trade again supported
for cattle on a custom kill basis.
An increased supply of yield
grade 4 steers was included in the
offering.

At mid week load Choice and

Up 4 e in July
The July uniform price for base
milk increased 4 cents from the
previous month in the Federal
Order 4 Philadelphia market
area according to Andrew
Marvin, Ephrata, fieldman for
Interstate Milk Producers
Cooperative. Excess milk showed
an increase of 19 cents.
In comparison to July levels
one year ago base milk was up 78
cents and excess up 83 cents.
The weighted average price for
the market was $7.38, an in
crease, of 77 cents above -July
1972.
A total of 366 million pounds of
producer milk was pooled in July
of which 60.75 percent was sold as
Class I, showing an' increase of
0.16 percent of deliveries made in
June, and an increase of 0.7
percent above July a year ago.
