Dr. Bryer, who was born in Beaver Falls, practiced in Gap from 1925 until he retired in 1967. He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1923. Dr. Bryer, who still lives in the house where he had his office, said he was the first veterinarian in the Gap area. Now, he said, there are about a dozen, in cluding his son, Dr. C. J. Bryer, practicing in the area. Most of his calls Dr. Bryer said, were for large farm animals. His most frequent patients were dairy cattle. Among the most unusual in cidents in his 47 years as a veterinarian were delivering three two-headed calves and having his leg broken while treating a bull Unlike Dr. Bryer, Dr. Ellis did not have a practice. He was in volved in research of poultry diseases and was also a college professor. A professor emeritus of Michigan State University, Dr. Ellis received his doctorate in poultry pathology from Cornell University in 1931. Dr. Ellis was born in Meriden, Conn. He has done research in New England, New York, Wisconsin and Michigan He did not come to Lancaster until 1966 when he became a parttime poultry diagnostician for Dr. Wilson Miller in Rohrerstown. Dr. Ellis retired in 1971. Dr. Ellis, in collaboration with other researchers, developed a drug to prevent coccidiosis in poultry animals. Washing Baby’s Laundry When washing baby’s laundry, put small bibs, socks and other items in a nylon mesh bag to avoid losing them inside larger garments. Mrs. Ruth Ann Wilson, Extension clothing specialist at The Pennsylvania State University, says washing baby’s things separately from the family laundry eliminates sorting and simplifies folding and putting away.
