Mrs. Albert E. Fry, Manheim RD2, took high judging honors at the Holstein field day. The judge for the contest was John W. McKitrick, a columist for Hoard’s Dairyman magazine. Other contest winners were, in the youth division, first through third, Betty Jo Bitler, Peach Bottom RD2, Ron Kreider, Manheim RD3, and Larry Hershey, Manheim RD2. In the women’s division, winners in addition to Mrs. Fry were Mrs. Nelson Hershey, Columbia RD2, and Mrs. Roberta L. Kindig, Conestoga RD2. Top three winners in the men’s division were James L. High, South View Road, Lancaster, Donald L. Hershey, Manheim RD2, and Darryl L. Bollinger, Manheim RDI. In the afternoon, McKitrick talked to the group about his conception of the current dairy situation. N. Alan Bair, assistant Lancaster County agricultural agent, also addressed the gathering. Kenneth Rutt, publicity chairman for the Lancaster County Holstein Association, said a winner had been chosen in the contest to name the association’s newsletter. The winning entry “Holstein Highlights” was submitted by Mrs. Roberta Kindig, Conestoga RDI, Master of ceremonies for the day was Elam Bollinger, president of the county association.
