October Porkfest Plans Announced The National Pork Producers Council has announced plans for their second annual OCTOBER PORKFEST pork promotion which calls for this October Pork Month campaign to be even bigger and better than the first. The NPPC’s nationwide multi media pork promotion will be based on the success-proven formula of the first PORKFEST in October, 1972, according to NPPC executive vice-president LIMING PAYS Ml BAKERS AG/jf LIMESTONE pays off belli Liming pays off in healthier soil, better crops, stronger and more productive animals. In fact, it has been estimated that each $1 in vested in limestone returns from $3 to $lO in bigger and better yields. Baker’s agricultural limestone pays off best because it does more. It sweetens soil to reduce acidity and raise pH level, and it also adds vital magnesium. Both are important to make sure that your crops can make full use of the fertilizers you apply. - Take care of your land, and your land will take care of you. Choose the brand of Baker's agricultural limestone that meets your needs. That month long promotion reached 100 million consumers with the message of today’s improved pork through extensive use of network radio and TV, and nationwide newspaper and magazine advertising, plus in store promotional materials. Also, dozens of state and local pork producer programs helped put pork in the spotlight. PORKFEST is designed to make consumers better acquainted with “today’s new pork” which, thank? to im provements in breeding and feeding over the past decases, is now lower in calories, leaner and higher in nutritional value than ever before. The annual PORK FEST is scheduled in October to feature the goodness of pork to the consumer at the beginning of the heavier slaughter period. Sponsored by the nation’s p6rk producers, this promotion im proved consumer awareness of pork and increased sales in cities receiving PORKFEST ad vertising last year, Garner pointed out. Competition for the consumers’ food dollar makes it imperative that we keep pork featured to them despite the rise and fall of available supply, he added. The expanded PORKFEST number 2 program will involve more network radio and television advertising while the use of other promotional media remain nearly the same.
