production played an extremely
important role in recent efforts to
establish peaceful relationships
with other nations. “If anyone
thought that President Nixon
didn’t use the American foodstuff
and our capacity to produce as a
persuasive bargaining
tool....they haven’t read their tea
leaves right,” Butz said.
Butz pointed out that General
Motors’ sponsorship of the State
President’s Conference was an
investment by the corporation.
“General Motors expects a
return on their investment,” the
Secretary declared, “a return in
leadership, m community
building, and in spreading the
American philosophy.
“This nation has one resource
that cannot be exhausted,” he
told the FFA leaders. “This
inexhaustible resource is the
human mind and the human
personality. It multiplies when
you use it-it only wastes when
you don’t use it. The more you
share the more there is to share,”
he concluded, challenging his
audience to use their leadership
skill as a tool for the im
provement of the human mind
and personality.
