Delmarvo Wednesday, July 25 Broiler-Fryer Market Ready to cook movement good as buyers build inventories in face of advancing prices. Slaughter schedules fairly heavy. Less than trucklot prices sharply, higher on both plant and US Grade A. Early trading for next week’s needs generally 10 cents higher than this week’s levels. Live supplies fully adequate at desirable weights. Undertone very firm. Pool trucklot prices for Thursday arrival: US Grade A 56-59; Plant Grade 55-58. Omaha Cattle Compared with last week’s close: closing price on slaughter steers and heifers were 25-50 c higher than the previous mid week peak and 75-1.00 above late sales. Cows were 1.00-1.50 higher and bulls 50-1.00 higher. Feeder cattle were 50-1.50 higher. Four day receipts only 9,600 as compared 1,500 previous week and 10,700 a year ago. Slaughter steers approximately 34 percent, heifers 32 percent, cows 17 percent and feeders 13 percent. Despite the apparent bearishness associated with announcement of the phase IV Economic Stabilization program fed cattle prices continued to work upward. Market ready cattle were in strong hands and the discontent of feeders was reflected in a general reluctance to dispose of available supplies while they still nurtured hopes for relief from ceiling limitations. All buying interests came into the week in need of cattle for immediate requirements and sharply curtailed marketings fell far short of meeting immediate needs even though some plants were shut down completely and reduced quotas were in effect in many others.
