24 —Lancaster Farming, Saturday, July 28, 1973 r Can it be the end of July? When the children notice the calendar, they sigh as they realize vacation is more than half over. I feel like saying, “What vacation?” Most of the time we feel so rushed we don’t find time for the little things we should do Somehow we find time to harvest the beans if we can just find time to plant them. Or we find time to go to the dentist or optometrist if we only take time to phone for an appointment. And we find time to give a big lecture but not a kind word. In our family we tend to become involved with too many activities and be overloaded so that we don’t enjoy them. Life is just rush from one thing to another. xxxx At the end of a hot day, when the hay is in the barn and unloaded, one of the boys will say - let’s make ice cream. While I mix the ingredients, one of them will chip away at the block of ice we keep in the freezer. On my attic are bags of cork chips which my parents used. My husbands parents had bags of horsehair which was put in their mattress. As a child, I had a chaff bag. This contained clean straw which became fine chaff after much use.
