Local Grain
Thursday, July 12
These prices are made up of the
average prices quoted by five
participating local feed and grain
concerns. It should be noted,
however, that not every dealer
handles each commodity. All
prices are per bushel except for
ear corn which is per ton.
The average local grain prices
quoted Thursday, July 12, 1973,
are as follows:
Bid+ Offered+
Ear Corn, Old 56.00 62.00
Shelled Corn 2.35 2.61
Oats, Local 88.00 1.09
Oats, western 1.21 1.37
Barley 1.58 1.79
Wheat 2.42 2.75
+Bid is the price the dealer
will buy from the farmer
delivered to the mill. Offered is
the price the dealer will sell for at
his mill.

Omaha Cattle
Thursday, July 12
Compared with last week’s
close; Slaughter Steers and
Heifers strong to 25 cents higher,
advance coming at midweek and
many steers showed full upturn.
Cows 1.25-1.50 higher under brisk
demand. Bulls 50-1.00 higher.
Feeder cattle, strong to 50 cents
higher.
Four day receipts 17,800 as
compared 11,400 for previous
holiday period and 16,300 a year
ago. Demand broad by all buying
interests but any substantial
advance in live prices generally
forestalled by the ceiling
limitations imposed on the
finished product. While the in
dustry hopefully speculated on
the *. ussibUity of some change in
the price structure, no an
nouncement was forthcoming
near the week’s end. Packers
continued to operate on razor
thin margins as live costs edged
upward even as carcass prices
bumped against the ceiling. The
overall finish of Steer and Heifer
crop fairly attractive with liberal
percentage Choice. Hot, humid
weather often encouraged
waterfills which made weighing
conditions favorable to sellers.
Steers made up 35 percent,
heifers 38 percent, cows 11
percent, and feeders 12 percent.
