Watson, President of the United Way of Lancaster County, has announced that thirty-six United Way Campaign service agencies will share in this year’s goal of $1,857,040. The goal was determined after months of preparation and study by the United Way Budget Committee under the direction of Fred R. Bahrenburg, Budget Chairman, and Nelson F. Although the goal is up $183,476 over the actual amount raised in last year’s United Way campaign it is $102,810 below the amount requested by the member agencies. Budget Chairman Bahrenburg stated: “We carefully reviewed each agency’s application for support to evaluate the true minimum need for human ser vices in the year ahead. We realize that people want their gifts to work hard on the local level in the most effective way. The 36 members of the Budget Committee looked hard at business and cash management practices, and we can assure Lancaster Countians that the goal is at a level reflecting true needs.” The United Way of Lancaster County last year served over 131,600 'persons, not including the 189,704 persons served by local hospitals, which also receive support.
