Octorara Youth Named
FFA State Treasurer
Gerald Metzler, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Metzler, Christiana
RDI, has been elected treasurer
of the Pennsylvania Association
of Future Farmers of America.
He was elected at the 45th annual
summer convention and ac
tivities week held at Penn State
University last week.
A member of the Octorara FFA
Chapter, Gerald has served as
Chapter secretary and vice
president, and Chester County
secretary and treasurer prior to
his election to State office.
The past school year proved to
be a rewarding one for the 1973
graduate Last October he at
tended the National FFA Con
vention in Kansas City, Mo.,
where he won a gold medal in
dairy showmanship. In January
he received the Keystone degree
at the mid-winter convention.
This was followed by the Chapter
banquet in April where he was
chosen Star Chapter Farmer,
senior scholar, district record
keeping award winner, and
Foundation award winner in crop
production and dairy production.
He is also a member of the
National Honor Society.

Farmers Invited To Exhibit
Samples In State Hay Show
The best of the state’s grasses
and legumes will be exhibited in
the State Hay Show held as part
of the 1973 Agricultural Progress
Days August 28-29-30 at the
Milton Hershey School Farms in
Hershey.
All hay producers are invited to
enter samples in the Hay Show
which consists of 26 classes and
includes both naturally cured and
heat cured samples, County
Agent Max Smith points out.
Exhibits should consist of bale
section of a least <jight inches
thick or an equivalent amount of
hay from the mow. Ribbons will
be awarded to the first five places
in each class and a trophy will be
