June 23, 1973 14 Clashing Thimbles Elect New Officers The second meeting of the Penn Manor 4-H Clashing Thimbles Club was held last week at the Millersville Middle School. The meeting was called to order by last years president, Joanne Metzger Election for this years officers was held. New officers are: Kris Stehman, president; Linda Sickman, vice-president; Joanne Metzger, secretary; Lisa Johnson, treasurer; Kay Shert- zer news reporter: Nancy Eckenrod and Darlene Metzger, game leaders; Lori Leaman and Carolyn Judge, song leaders. Dues were decided and the leaders gave comments. A work period followed meeting ad journment. Contests on the State level will determine those eligible to represent Pennsylvania in Regional and -National contests. County quotas in Contest Areas are on the basis of one contestant for every eight members in the local chapters. There are con tests in such areas as public speaking, parliamentary procedures, dairy cattle judging, judging of dairy products, poultry judging, land judging, agronomy, salesmanship, or namental landscape, and floral design. There is a farm mechanics skills contest, a farm power and machinery ad justment contest, small gasoline engines contest, and a safe tractor operation contest. In the various contests, students (boys and girls) must p erform a variety of shop a"d mechanical skills a.id troubleshooting. They are judged on the basis of their proficiency and safety with which they perform these skills. New officers to represent the State FFA will also be elected. Eighty-six contestants will be representing Lancaster County, including one parliamentary procedure team, two speakers, three delegates, two officer candidates, three State Band members, and eight in State Chorus. Schools entering com petition will include Penn Manor, Lampeter-Strasburg, Manheim Central, Ephrata, Solanco, Pequea Valley, Garden Spot, Elizabethtown, Brownstown Vo- Tech and Mount Joy Vo-Tech. From Lebanon County, 43 students from Lebanon County Vo-Tech, Northern Lebanon, Cedar Crest, Eastern Lebanon and Annville-Cleona will be entered in various contests. Contest areas include: dairy, dairy foods, poultry, livestock, f our band members, four officer candidates, parliamentary procedure team, floriculture, land judging, forestry, small engines, interview, ag mechanics, and one delegate. Berks County will be represented by approximately 54 students from Twin Valley, Oley Valley, Tulpehocken, Hamburg, Kutztown, Brandywine, Conrad Weiser, and Governor Mifflin.
