    Rule Changes Announced For NEPPCO Market

In each state, those scoring in the
top half of all entries from that
state will be awarded Blue
Ribbons and the remaining en
tries will receive Honorable
Mentions.
The Committee also voted to
eliminate the “Best of Show”
Gold Award on the grounds that
since human judgement still
plays a major role m the deter
mination of egg quality, there is
no one best entry.
The “Most Attractive Carton”
award will be continued. A ladies
group - all housewives and
consumers, unrelated in any way
to the poultry industry - will be
Delbert L. Seitz, 578 East

has been named corporate
treasurer of Victor F. Weaver,
Inc., and Subsidiaries it was
announced by Company officials.
Seitz, a native of Virginia,
joined Weaver in 1972 as cor
porate controler and financial
manager. He holds a B. S. degree
in business administration from
Madison College and an M. S.
degree in business ad
ministration from Case Western
Reserve University.

Brochures containing complete
information and entry forms will
be ready for distribution by mid-
June. Deadline for receipt of
entry forms will be August 15. All
producers and-or packers of shell
eggs located in the 14 NEPPCO
states are eligible to enter the
contest. There is no entry fee.
Judging will be done at the
packing plant or farm by a state
egg inspector. Entry forms will
be available after June 15 from
NEPPCO, state egg inspectors
and many egg co-ops and carton
salesmen in the Norheast.

director of the Bureau of Markets
in Maine.

Pollution Burden
M.I.T. Discovers
A new and underdeveloped
use of magnetism for ecolog
ical use is being developed by
Massachusetts Institute of
Technology scientists
Judged to be economically
competitive with other meth
ods, the technique supplies a
sufficiently strong magnetic
force to purify water and
sewage, to remove 60 per cent
of the sulfur from pulverized
coal and to concentrate iron
in low-grade ore, according
to the news magazine of the
American Chemical Society.
In laboratory tests with
water supplies and sewage,
the high-gradient magnetic
separation (HGMS) removed
phosphate, color, bacteria and
other pollutants, and reduced
the amount of suspended
solids.
Economic recovery of iron
from vast deposits of cur
rently untreatable ores is also
possible based on a success
fully tested pilot-plant model
called the Carousel, according
to Dr. John A. Oberteuffer
and David R. Kelland of
